Cate Whetzel was interviewed by the Indiana Daily Student (IDS), on July 6, 2018. The Indiana Daily Student is an independent, student-run newspaper that has been published for the community of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, since 1867. The IDS is free and distributed throughout the campus and in Bloomington.
The article “Recalling IU’s first artist in residence, T.C. Steele” is an interview that covers various aspects of the artist life with a focus on Steele’s time as IU’s first artist in residence. This position was a position recommended by then IU President William Lowe Bryan and approved by the Board of Trustees. Cate also mentions Steele’s portrait of William Lowe Bryan in the Presidents Hall, as well as many other Steele’s on campus including the University Club and several in the student union. One of Steele’s most important works “The Boatman” shown on the cover of this newsletter, hangs in the Eskenazi Museum of Art. The interview conducted by student Lauren Fazekas can be accessed here.
