Hello Friends,

We hope your new year is off to a very good start!

As we look forward to spring, we encourage you to attend the 38th Annual Spring Wildflower Foray in Brown County, Indiana. This year’s name includes Monroe County and going forward will be recognized as the Brown & Monroe Annual Spring Wildflower Foray. This year’s event will occur April 28, 29, 30.

Friends of T.C. Steele has supported this event financially and with volunteers each year. Andrea Smith deTarnowsky, T.C. Steele board member and Brown County resident, has been a 30+ year member of the planning committee for this event. Andrea continues to lend her deep experience in helping showcase Brown County art and outdoors in this year’s event. A big thanks to Andrea!

Other key activities include:

  • We have moved our Annual Member Art Show to the fall (August 25 – September 23) to coincide with Art Colony of Brown County Weekend (September 9-10).
  • We completed our annual membership survey and continue to be encouraged by this year’s results and feedback.
  • We have made tremendous progress with the development of our App for the T.C. Steele Historic Trail.
  • We continue to archive Steele paintings in our virtual gallery with our Painting of the Month.  We now have 116 paintings in the virtual gallery. We are not aware of any virtual collection of Steele paintings that exceeds this. All are professionally shot photo images, to include provenance and background information when available.
  • We have established relationships with key Owen County supporters and historians. We will partner with Gosport History Museum on a very small exhibit this spring, “T.C. Steele in Owen County”.  The “T.C. Steele Historic Trail App” will begin in Gosport, and the journey includes seven Indiana T.C. Steele sites where he lived and worked during his lifetime.

We want to thank the Haan Museum of Indiana Art for providing several of the Steele paintings in their collection that will be showcased in our Painting of the Month as we move into spring. A big thank you to Bob and Ellie Haan for helping us with this showcase of paintings

In closing, we continue to focus our activities that align with our mission of “preserving the art, life and legacy of T.C. Steele”. We could not do this without your support and the tireless work and commitment of our board of directors.

We appreciate your continued support!

P. Garrett Adams

President & Board Chair
