Passing of Martin “Marty” Franz Krause

October 14, 1951- February 20, 2026

News / Winter 2026 Newsletter / Passing of Martin “Marty” Franz Krause

March 2, 2026 by Friends of T.C. Steele

It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of Marty Krause. Marty had an illustrious career as the Curator of Prints, Drawing, and Photographs at the Indianapolis Museum of at Newfields for over 40 years.

Many Friends of T.C. Steele recall Marty from his book “The Passage: Return of Indiana Painters from Germany, 1880-1905”. This book provides the definitive work on T.C. Steele’s time in Germany. It is a must have for your library.

The Friends of T.C. Steele organization are grateful for the help Marty always provided when we needed context, clarity or understanding of T.C. Steele for our work on the virtual gallery and the T.C. Steele Historic Trail. He was scheduled to be our inaugural podcast guest for our upcoming series commencing this spring.

The arts community will miss Marty, and our thoughts are with his wife of over 50 years, Mary, his daughters, Kristin and Elizabeth, and five beloved grandchildren.
