Hello Friends,
We have once again experienced the wonderful fall colors which present themselves each fall showcasing the natural beauty of Brown County. Each time I visit the region, I am reminded why this area became and remains an artists’ colony.
The Friends continue to do our work virtually. This has worked as well as we could hope. We are continuing to work with the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites to find an acceptable arrangement in which to write a new Memorandum of Understanding. I am hopeful this will happen, and we will keep you informed as we have this year when any significant activity occurs.
A successful Great Outdoor Art Contest was accomplished the week of September 9. 10, 11 with voting occurring via a live Facebook stream on Saturday September 12. This event celebrated its 32nd year, with a new 3-day format for 2020. The GOAC is sponsored by the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association (IPAPA) and is organized by the Brown County Art Guild, held in conjunction with the Brown County Art Colony Weekend.
We hope as we enter the holiday season very soon, members will use the AmazonSmile program announced in our last newsletter. We also encourage friends and family to use this as well. Recall with each purchase Amazon makes a small donation to Friends.
A reminder to our members and friends; the Annual Member Art Show is scheduled for February 6-17, 2021 and will be held in the wonderful Bob & Barbara Stevens Art Education Studio at the Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville, Indiana.
Lastly, we encourage you to visit our virtual gallery where we now have over 80 Steele paintings covering all of key geographies and time periods; Germany, (1880 – 1885) – Brookville, (1898 – 1906), Brown Country (1907 – 1926), Vermont (1887), Tennessee (1899) Oregon and California (1902 – 1903). Also areas around the Indiana towns of Indianapolis, Vernon, Yountville, Spencer and Metamora which are showcased in the virtual gallery along with Steele’s portraits of leading figures of the period.
We encourage you and members of your party to wear masks and observe appropriate social distancing when participating in Friends events or visiting the historic site. Guidelines and pet policies can be found here.
