Member Art Show 2020

News / Spring 2020 Newsletter / Member Art Show 2020

May 12, 2020 by Friends of T.C. Steele

The Friends of T.C. Steele Annual Member Art Show was held on Saturday, February 8, at the Brown County Art Gallery. Now in its 8th year, a large number of impressive member paintings were submitted and cash awards announced at the show. A total of 43 member paintings were submitted. The paintings were judged, and awards were given to first place and three honorable mentions.

The Brown Country Art Gallery quickly became a wonderful partner in this year’s event, and our first time holding the show off site.  The spacious Bob & Barbara Stevens Art Education Studio proved to be a great area to display paintings, host artists and show visitors with plenty of light, hanging space and a kitchen for serving refreshments.  We must thank Jeanne Bennett, of the BCAG who could not have been a better partner helping us host this event!

The first Member Art show was held in the Large Studio at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site from November 2 – 30 in 2012 with the assistance of the Brown County Art Alliance. The inaugural show hosted 29 artists and 53 works. Artists must be members of Friends of T.C. Steele, and can submit two works for each show, and this remains the standard today. Over 50 people attended.

Davida (Davie) King who was an employee at the historic site at that time, thought a member art show might be a way to connect artists and community in Brown County. Her idea continues to this day as a key event for Friends of T.C. Steele. The artists winning the inaugural year were: first place won by Holly LaDue Urick, second place won by Anabel Hopkins, and third place won by Don Wood.

This year’s winners:

  • First Place: Fred Doloresco, “Across the Field”, Oil on Canvas ($500 Prize)
  • Honorable Mention: Mary Sue V. Schwab, “Glorious Anjou Pears”, Watercolor ($250 Prize)
  • Honorable Mention: James M. Stahlhut, “Young’s Creek Ford”, Oil on Masonite ($250 Prize
  • Honorable Mention: Scott Fischvogt, “Mixed Media – Photo + Watercolor Watercolor ($250 Prize)

Please join us in congratulating these Member Art Show Winners and their community of peer artists who entered this year’s show. The works were all impressive and we look forward to seeing future work by all artists who participated!
